Rational Examination:Assault Weapon
January 16, 2013 | By Andy Rutledge
So called “assault weapons” are used in less than 2% of gun crimes in the US. This meaningless term is needlessly deceptive. All weapons are assault weapons and all are defense weapons.
Indeed, the common element in all crimes and criminal deaths involving these deadly weapons is…criminals. And not law-abiding citizens.
“Term coined by Violence Policy Center head Josh Sugarmann to describe civilian semiautomatic firearms with a military or fearsome appearance, yet no more lethality than lesser weapons. Derived from the term ‘assault rifle’, which means a fully automatic, selective fire rate firearm used by military and police personnel.” - the Urban Dictionary
