es, I've redesigned the site again. Not drastic and it's not much of an information architecture realignment, but a design redux nonetheless. In fact, it's pretty darn close to the design from about 1.5 years ago. Why redesign now? Well, let's just say that I found the previous design to be a bit juvenile.
In fact, I was never comfortable with the splotchy, distressed aesthetic I applied last time. Even the color was not entirely comfortable for me. It was fun and certainly different from past design aesthetics I’ve applied to the site, but just not right for the ideals I want portrayed here.
I’ve always been a fan of excellent newspaper design and, therefore, excellent online news design (though few and far between they are). Print news is text that tells a story and that is meant to be read – comfortably. I imagine this site to have the same purpose; to publish text information/articles that are meant to be read easily and comfortably.
I hope that with this latest incarnation my site is designed in such a way as to present the content in an easily consumable fashion. I even made some effort to make the content compelling, at least at the beginning of articles – where the hook is supposed to reside.
And yes, I know that I’ve engaged in likely too many redesigns over the past 2 years. This tendency of mine may just be frustrating for some of you or inspire disinterest from others. I apologize for that if this is so, but I tend to regard this site as my personal laboratory. Change is inevitable in this environment and though I’m rather satisfied with this new design I’m sure it’ll be on the way out one day.
Until then…
This is the personal soap box and playground of Andy Rutledge — sometimes mild-mannered creative director at netsuccess in Dallas, sometimes opinionated sumbitch on this site.
