istakes …well they pretty much suck. I made a fairly large one yesterday and I’m rightfully paying for it.
I received a very kind invitation from UX Magazine to republish one of my articles and, quite understandably, leapt at the chance. They already had one in mind and that was fine with me. Big mistake on my part.
The article in question was little more than a rant. It was meant to be a rant and it was intended for publication on my own site, in the context of my other writings. It was meant to be a provocative piece and not meant to be an in-depth examination of the main topic, but rather an emotional plea in taking up a counterpoint to what I’ve been exposed to here and there over the past couple of years.
The fact is that it was poor fare for a publication as respectable as UX Magazine and, as a stand-alone offering, reflected poorly on my work, my ideas and me. I now regret that I didn’t first think about the effect such a flippant tone would have on readers of UX and wish I’d have suggested a more soberly approached work or worked to redo this particular article in a manner more respectful of the publication. My mistake and I’ll pay for it for some time to come.
I wholeheartedly stand by my thesis, however. I meant every word I said in that article, but context is important and contextually inappropriate tone is just bad form. Live and learn.

By the way, for those of you who might have assumed otherwise, I'm really
not 16 years old. This age reference was just my way of expressing the magnitude
of my error.
This is the personal soap box and playground of Andy Rutledge — sometimes mild-mannered creative director at netsuccess in Dallas, sometimes opinionated sumbitch on this site.
